Johnny Depp has had a rough year and that’s not counting the fact that Black Mass is literally the only good movie he’s made in the last five years.
Last year, Depp went through an ugly divorce with actress Amber Heard, who claimed that Depp abused her. While that was never confirmed and Depp was never officially charged, you can still tell that the whole thing has taken its toll on the once-beloved actor. The divorce was finalized just last week.
“I came here for one reason tonight and one reason only,” he said. “I came here for you, the people, who through whatever good times or bad, you know, have stood by me, trusted me. Thank you. You very, very graciously invited me here once again tonight . . . You have no idea how much I appreciate it.”
“Listen, I was very deeply affected by the kindness of your recognition and by your well wishes to my family and to myself, which is why it’s especially meaningful to me to be here in front of you to say thank you and to tell you that I to thank you.”
This is public image rebuilding 101 from Depp right here. Depp appeared contrite and modest, making sure to put the emphasis of his speech on the fans. Hopefully, this gets Depp’s career back on track, because when he’s at the top of his game. There are few that are better.
