The Rio Summer 2016 Olympics should be a time of great success for all the athletes who’ve worked their butts off to make it to the Olympic Games, but sometimes things don’t always work out that way. Sometimes, you make a massive mistake at the highest level. And while Nike or Adidas could probably make a rousing commercial about the importance of failure on your way to success, we’re just left here feeling kind of bad for all these Olympians who messed up.
But it’s not just the athletes who’ve been caught mucking it up. Sometimes it’s the parents, or even the camera crew working the Olympics.
**We’ll be updating this post with all the FAILs of the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics, so keep checking back for more. The newest fails will appear at the bottom of the post.**
Ellis O’Reilly Failed Dismount
Ellis O’Reilly became the first woman in Olympics history to represent Ireland in Women’s Gymnastics, but that doesn’t take away from the fact she’d probably like to get this dismount back.
American Airlines Lost Emiliano Grillo’s Clubs
Professional athletes are just like us, normal people who have to pay taxes and are forced to tweet at airlines when their baggage gets lost.
Extraordinary NBC Camera Work
This isn’t so much a FAIL, but something that you’d probably like to see anyways. Check out what the NBC Camera Guys are actually focusing in on.
Even if someone did drown, there’s no way that countries are going to let this lifeguard save their athlete.
Annemiek van Vleuten Horrific Cycling Crash
The good news is that she’s apparently going to be fine. The bad news is that she was leading the pack of cyclists when this happened.
Paramedics Drop Broken Leg Gymnast On Stretcher
By now you’ve probably heard of Ait Said, the French gymnast whose leg snapped in half. It’s one part sad and the-rest-of-the-parts horrifying, so we’re not calling that a FAIL. What is a FAIL are the motherf*cking paramedics who dropped Said’s stretcher while putting him into the ambulance.
Aly Raisman’s Parents Reaction
Anyone who’s ever had a parent attend a sporting event knows that they can work themselves into all sorts of trouble. Here we see Aly Raisman’s mom successfully embarrassing her daughter.

Kei Nishikori Racket Drop + Recovery
This is more of a fail for the Spanish player who could have 100% put away Kei Nishikori, but instead hit a little dribbler right at him.
Japan's Kei Nishikori drops racket mid-point, wins point anyway.

South African Fails to Intimidate Michael Phelps
South African swimmer Chad le Clos tried intimidating Michael Phelps in the ready room before the 200m Butterfly semifinal event. It did not go according to plan. Phelps bested le Clos, and in turn gave one of the greatest nanosecond death stares we’ve ever seen.
Sun Yang Tries To Throw Hat Into Crowd

Right after winning the gold in the men’s 200m freestyle, Sun tried throwing his swimming cap into the stands. It did not go according to plan.
Paul George Forgot He’s Not Playing in the NBA
NBA players have a lot of perks on the court, one of which is having people take his drink cups from his hand when he’s done. Except, Paul’s at the Olympics, and people will be glad to take his stuff, but it’ll be wallets and watches–not empty paper cups.
Dutch Gymnast Yuri van Gelder Sent Home For Drinking
Dutch Olympian Yuri van Gelder, the former European and world champion, was sent home by Dutch team for violating alcohol consumption and leaving the team base. The reason he was out drinking was because he was celebrating qualifying for the final of the rings event.
Yuri, who was once called the “Lord of the Rings” was since redubbed the “Lord of the Drinks.”
French Fencer Lefort Loses Cell Phone During Match
You can bet that he’s probably one of the many athletes in Rio using Tinder to hook up. Nothing like swiping right before the biggest match of your life to calm the nerves.
Michael Phelps Breaks His Racing Cap
Obviously it didn’t matter too much to Michael Phelps because he won his 21st Olympic Gold medal in this race, but that doesn’t mean he’s free from making our list of FAILs.
Kids Break Olympic Rings For Photo
Possibly my favorite FAIL from the Olympics so far. Just point and case of how sh*tty the Rio venue and stadium really is.
Jeffrey Julmis Trips in 100M Hurdles
Haitian hurdler Jeffrey Julmis could be seen trying to hype the crowd up, yelling “I’m ready.” Well maybe he was trying to hype himself up, because this guy failed at the first hurdle in epic fashion.
