Dutch women’s cyclist Annemiek van Vleuten was closing in on an Olympic Gold medal when in an instant everything changed. With six miles remaining in the 87.6 mile race, van Vleuten had a significant lead when she suffered a massive wipeout after slipping while going down a hill.
She remained motionless for a while after the scary crash but the Dutch cycling federation has since said that she is okay.
Anna van der Breggen was able to capitalize on her fellow Dutch rider’s misfortune and win the gold medal in the event.
You have to feel bad for van Vleuten. Usually, cyclists have their falls from grace after the race is over and the drug tests come out, not literal ones off their bikes.
