The Iowa Hawkeyes are closing in on a perfect regular season. The 3rd-ranked Hawkeyes have just one more obstacle to overcome in making that happen as Iowa hits the road on Friday afternoon to play the Nebraska Cornhuskers. Nebraska is 5-6 for the season and 3-4 in the Big Ten Conference while Iowa is a perfect 11-0 overall and 7-0 in the conference along with winning the West Division. While the records seem very different, this is not going to be an easy task for Iowa.
Iowa is coming off of a 40-20 win against Purdue and has scored at least 31 points in each of their last five games. C.J. Beathard has been a leader on offense with 2,257 passing yards, 13 touchdowns and three interceptions. Matt VandeBerg has been the leader in the receiving game with 56 catches for 594 yards and three touchdowns. Jordan Canzeri has 824 rushing yards and ten touchdowns to lead the run game as the Hawkeyes look to win this rivalry game and move into the Big Ten title game undefeated.
Nebraska needs to win to clinch a bowl berth and have won their last two games. Tommy Armstrong Jr. has 2,560 passing yards, 21 touchdowns and 12 interceptions on the year while finding a lot of Jordan Westerkamp through the air. Westerkamp has 61 catches for 833 yards and seven touchdowns to lead the team. Terrell Newby is pacing the Cornhuskers on the ground with 709 rushing yards and five touchdowns. Will Nebraska have enough to pull the huge upset to ruin Iowa’s national championship hopes?
