As his meteoric rise to becoming the undisputed king of rap continues, Drake’s net worth also has been skyrocketing over the last couple of years. With past this weekend’s release of Drake’s latest endeavor, What A Time To Be Alive, and the impending release of his long-awaited senior studio album Views From The Six, Drake has reigned supreme for quite some time. But exactly how much does all this fame and success make Drake worth? The answer…?

But how did Drake get here? And how did he do it in only a handful of years? Let’s take a look.


2006

After gaining recognition as an actor in the television show Degrassi, Drake set his sights on the musical aspect of the arts, releasing his first mixtape on February 19th, 2006, Room for Improvement.


2007

 
January 1st 2007: Drizzy releases his second mixtape ‘Comeback Season’ which features production by Kanye West, J Dilla & 9th Wonder. ‘Replacement Girl’, featuring Trey Songz, was used as a single & a video shortly followed. The first of many, Drake broke the record for the first unsigned Canadian rapper to have his video featured on BET.


2008

November 18th 2008: Shortly after splitting up with his girlfriend, Drake was invited by Lil Wayne after he was handed some of Drake’s music by Rap-A-Lot founders son (Jas Prince). Drake and Wayne recorded a couple of songs during this time, including ‘Ransom’, the original version of ‘Forever’ & the remix to ‘Brand New’. Despite being part of the Young Money crew, Drake was not signed.


2009

 
February 13th 2009: Drake releases his Grammy nominated third mixtape, ‘So Far Gone’ which included features from Lil Wayne, Bun B & Omarion. The mixtape had over 2000 downloads in its first 2 hours. Due to the mixtapes two successful singles (‘Best I Ever Had’ & ‘Successful’), it was released as an EP & with only 5 songs from the mixtape & one new track. MTV named it “The Hottest Mixtape of 2009′.
June 29th, 2009: Drake gets his first real taste of entertainer money, signing a $2 million dollar record deal with Young Money Records.
July 4th 2009:  Drake has 2 tracks on The Billboard Hot 100 chart of that summer ,with ‘Best I Ever Had’ & ‘Every Girl’ both entering the top 10.
July 31st 2009: Drake busts his ass on stage at a concert in New Jersey with Lil Wayne. He underwent surgery 2 months later for a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his knee. It’s hilarious.

September 15th 2009: ‘So Far Gone’ was re-released as a 7 track EP & debuted at number 6 on the Billboard 200. Since then the album was certified gold by the RIAA with over 500,000 copies sold in the U.S.


2010

 
In 2010, Forbes had voted him as the highest earning newcomer for the year and he was said to have raked in $10 million.
June 15th 2010: Drake’s debut album ‘Thank Me Later’ was released & sold 447,000 copies in it’s first week & debuted at number 1 on the Billboard 200. At the time of its release, Drake was the first rapper to sell the most records for any Hip-Hop artist in one week.
August 2nd 2010: Drake begins to establish himself as an international superstar, holding the first annual OVO Fest in Toronto, which featured artists such as Rick Ross, Young Jeezy, Eminem, and Jay-Z.


2011

 
November 15th 2011:  Drake’s second, and in my opinion, best, studio album ‘Take Care’ is released. The album sold 631,000 copies in it’s first week & sold over 2 million copies since it’s release.


2012

February 2012: Drake begins his ‘Club Paradise’ tour. This tour was the most successful hip-hop tour of 2012, earning an estimated $42 million.
June 14th 2012: Drizzy & Chris Brown are involved in an alteracation where glass bottles where thrown between both parties at a nightclub in New York, with Meek Mill in attendance.
In 2012, the rapper dropped $7.7 million for a property that he was previously renting. The Hidden Hills compound was earlier up for grabs for a whopping $27 million back in January 2009. It apparently went down to $9.95 million in November. Three years after, Drake was the lucky one to purchase the massive palatial pad.


2013

September 24th 2013: ‘Nothing Was The Same’ was released & sold 658,000 copies in it’s first week. As of March 2014, the album has sold over 1.4 million copies.
September 30th 2013: Drake becomes the global ambassador for the ‘Toronto Raptors’ which involves rebranding the team in honor of 2016 NBA All-Star Game which will be held in Toronto.
Drake was estimated to have earned $10.5 million in 2013.


2014

Drake spent much of 2014 on the tour for Nothing Was The Same, called ‘Would You Like a Tour?’
Drake was estimated to have earned $33 million in 2014 alone, a significant increase from his earnings the previous year.


2015

 

February 12, 2015: Drake released If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late, with no prior announcement onto iTunes, making it his fourth retail project with Cash Money. As of August 11, 2015, If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late had sold over 1 million copies, making Drake the first artist with a platinum album in 2015. It also marks the rapper’s fourth platinum album.


July 21st, 2015: Rapper Meek Mill disses Drake on Twitter, claiming the Canadian born artist uses a “ghost writer” to write his lyrics for him.


July 29th, 2015: Drake releases the song “Back to Back”, a Meek Mill diss track that would become yet another radio smash hit for Drizzy.

September 20th, 2015: Drake and Atlanta-based rapper Future release a collaborative mixtape entitled “What a Time to be Alive”.


October 19th, 2015: Drake Releases New ‘Hotline Bling’ Video On Apple Music.

2016

On March 29, 2016 Two new songs from Drake “Controlla” and “These Days” leaked. Whether or not these are songs from his highly-anticipated album Views From The 6 we have no idea.


On April 5, 2016 Drake released two new singles today, “Pop Style” (featuring “The Throne” aka Kanye and Jay-Z) and “One Dance” (feat. Wizkid and Kyla) ahead of the mystery release of View From the 6.

2017

Drake released his new album More Life on March 18, 2017. Industry insiders predict the album will open atop the tally with around 5,000 to 550,000 equivalent album units earned in the U.S. by March 23. This would give Drake not only the largest weekly unit total of 2017, but also the largest since his own Views launched at No. 1 last May.

Drake finally left his differences with Chris Brown and confirmed a new song featuring both artists that is gonna drop in 2019.
