Dominique Lesbirel is one odd bird. Firstly, she’s been a widow for a very short period of time and has already managed to move on (and no, she’s not a gold digger). Secondly, both of her mates are animals. WTF?!
The 41-year-old animal lover (literally) wed her cat eight years ago, but unfortunately had to put him down at 19 from kidney failure. Luckily she’s dried her eyes and moved on to the next four-legged creature she could find: her dog Travis, whom she hopes to marry one day.
To make things even weirder, Lesbirel also gifts strangers the opportunity to marry their pets – she’s been ordained online and carries out weddings for beast-human ceremonies.
For those having a difficult time grasping this weird situation (uh hello, me), she explains further:
“I’m happy to conduct same sex marriages, or to let people marry more than one pet. I only marry domestic animals, though. In some parts of the world, you hear of people keeping lions and tigers as pets – I wouldn’t marry people to them. I also need to make sure they truly love and respect their pet.”
And for those who criticize her work, Lesbirel has a few words:
“I had people emailing me telling me I was cruel,’ she said. ‘They said I was basically promoting animal cruelty. Some were horrified and thought I was condoning bestiality, which was awful and certainly not the case.
I would never condone such terrible acts of cruelty to animals. My site is all about making a commitment to pets to show your dedication to them and promise that you will always look after them.
That’s why I’m planning to marry Travis. He’s given me so much happiness and unconditional love. I just want to celebrate that bond.”
Let’s just get one thing straight here – gay marriage was only just legalized after years of fighting for the right, and this woman has had time to carry out an eight year marriage with her dead cat and plan her next move. What the f*ck is wrong with the world?!
