U2 brought a fan up to play guitar during Friday’s show in Phoenix–and we’d usually get a kick out of goofing on U2, but they were kind of right to regret bringing this spazz up on stage. It could’ve been a fun moment when Edge forgot the chords to the seldom-played “In God’s Country” and Bono solicited the crowd for someone who could take over on guitar. We’ve seen that done right a few times with smaller acts in decent venues.
U2, unfortunately, got stuck with a real jerk. Maybe that’s the only kind of person who would spend that much money for the best seats at a U2 concert. Anyway, the fan could’ve become another Scott Halpin, who once sat in for a drugged-out Keith Moon at a 1973 concert by The Who in San Francisco. Halpin didn’t do a great job, but he kept the concert going and people look back at him fondly.
The guys in U2 will not look back at this cretin fondly. Check out the video for some truly cringeworthy action–not just from the guy, but also from the men of U2 being unable to hide their disdain. Rock ‘n roll…
