Legendary WWE announcer Jim Ross may be out of a job right now but he’s not done calling painful looking fights. Ross found a new gig calling mixed martial arts fights.
The biggest mouth in the history of World Wrestling Entertainment will do a play-by-play job for the Battleground MMA league for a match that will air on Pay-Per-View. He’ll be doing color commentary for a series of fights with MMA championship fighter Chael Sonnen aka “The Gangster from West Linn, Oregon.” The fight will take place and air live on Pay-Per-View on Oct. 3rd from Tulsa, Oklahoma, Ross’s home state. Ross and Sonnen will commentate on eight fights throughout the evening including the main event, a showdown between Randy Couture’s son Ryan and Jonny “King of Late Night” Carson. It’s bound to be a bloodbath.
It’s nice to see Ross getting back in the game so quickly after his unceremonious exit from the WWE. It’s welcome news for several reasons. He left World Wrestling Entertainment back in July following a dispute with the company at a live panel with former champion Ric Flair. Even if he was at fault (and we’re more likely to side with him over the WWE), he’s still a legendary figure who worked hard to become such a revered announcer and he deserved at least a send off whether he was fired by the WWE or forced to retire. But the good news is that he’s moving on to a world full of sexy MMA ring girls.
