We’re going to be celebrating National Bikini Day soon enough–but, first, perhaps we should ponder why women wear bikinis. Nobody’s questioning a good thing here. We just know that the bikini has a proud history, and it hasn’t been that long since Ursula Andress became an instant sex symbol (and pioneering Bond Girl) flaunting her bikini’d bod in 1962’s Dr. No.

There’s still a lot more to learn about the bikini, though. That’s in addition to the history of lipstick, high heels, and other fine femme accessories.
