Stanley Cup Bet: NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio Sings “I Love L.A.” [VIDEO]

When the Stanley Cup Final began, the mayors of New York and Los Angeles put together a bet–and with the Kings winning the title, it was up to New York mayor Bill de Blasio to hold up his end by belting out “I Love L.A.” on national television. Specifically, on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, even though Blasio at least got to use the Times Square headquarters of Good Morning America while paying off the bet…

It boils down to having to make good on a bet, and de Blasio had to make it happen. He also treated the crowd in Los Angeles to New York City hot dogs in the process. We’re hoping that Randy Newman–who originally wrote and sang L.A.’s unofficial anthem–got a kick out of hearing the song coming out of the mouth of New York’s mayor. In any case, the guaranteed glamour of a NYC/L.A. contest sure upped the ante on mayoral sports bets. Lesser cities will have a tough act to follow.
