Marilyn was a model, singer, and actress who was named "Sweetheart of the Month" in the first issue of Playboy magazine, which debuted in December 1953. She graced the cover of that issue, which featured her wearing a dress with a neckline cut almost to her navel when she acted as Grand Marshall at the Miss America Parade in September 1952, and while a nude photograph of Monroe, taken in 1949, appeared inside the magazine.
