The 2016 PGA Championship, the 98th PGA Championship, begins July 28, 2016, at Baltusrol Golf Club on the Lower Course in Springfield Township, New Jersey, west of New York City. This will be the ninth major and second PGA Championship at Baltusrol, which last hosted in 2005.
This year’s PGA Championship was moved up two weeks from its usual early-August spot to accommodate the Olympics in Brazil. The John Deere Classic is taking its place on the schedule for those not qualified for the Olympics.
The PGA Championship is an annual golf tournament conducted by the Professional Golfers Association of America and is one of the four major championships in professional golf. The PGA Championship is the last major tournament of the year and is usually played in mid-August on the third weekend prior to Labor Day weekend. It is an official money event on the PGA Tour, European Tour, and Japan Golf Tour, with a purse of $10 million for the 97th edition in 2015. PGA champions are automatically invited to play in the other three majors (Masters Tournament, U.S. Open, and The Open Championship) for the next five years, and are exempt from qualifying for the PGA Championship for life.
