Joint Base Andrews, in Prince George’s County, Maryland, is currently on lockdown due to a report of an active shooter. Authorities say there was a exercise scheduled for today at the base, however, it is unclear if the report of the active shooter is related to this exercise. The incident is taking place at the Malcolm Grow Medical Facility, and first responders are on the scene. The base is in Maryland, about 15 miles from the White House. What Is Joint Base Andrews?
Joint Base Andrews is a United States military facility. The base is under the jurisdiction of the United States Air Force 11th Wing, Air Force District of Washington. Joint Base Andrews is a result of a 2009n merge of Andrews Air Force Base and Naval Air Facility Washington. JBA is named for Lieutenant General Frank Maxwell Andrews. General Andrews was a former Commanding General of United States Forces in the European Theater of Operations during World War II.
The base is popular for serving as the home base of two Boeing VC-25 aircraft which have the call sign Air Force One while the President of the United States is on board.
