Chris Hemsworth stars as the world’s hunkiest computer hacker in the upcoming Blackhat, and we usually don’t have much hope for action movies about computer hijinks. They can get kind of boring–but Blackhat is directed by Michael Mann, who has a great track record with movies like Heat and Collateral, and it looks like he’s found lots of ways to keep things moving in this tale of major mayhem.
We still think that Blackhat needs a new marketing team, because it’s hard to believe that you’d release a movie starring Chris Hemsworth and let a character making a reference to dropping the big hammer. Dude, it’s Thor, okay? He does not need a hammer reference in the trailer to his new movie. Chris Hemsworth is still looking for the right role to prove that he’s more than just a comic-book hero, and not enough people saw him doing good work in Cabin in the Woods or Rush for those to count.
Anyway, check out a lot of running around, and maybe a few nuclear reactors blowing up as we’re all once again reminded that we put way too much trust into computers. Also, don’t trust the people at Universal. They don’t even know how to avoid a good snark fest…
