Carmelo Anthony Opts Out Of New York Knicks Contract

The saga of Carmelo Anthony reached a climax over the weekend when it was reported that he is planning to opt out of his final year of his contract with the New York Knicks to become a free agent. Anthony will have plenty of teams wanting his services for next season including the Chicago Bulls, Houston Rockets and Dallas Mavericks. It is a decision though that was expected.
Anthony may not make the same amount of money signing with a different team but he may have the chance to win a NBA championship sooner than he would with the Knicks. New York can offer Anthony $129 million over five years while he would make just $96 million over four years with a new team. It all boils down to the money and whether or not Anthony would rather win a title or get another huge payday.
It will likely come down to whether or not he wants to take a pay cut to play in Chicago with Derrick Rose and the Bulls. If he were to do that, Chicago suddenly becomes a team that could win a title next season depending on the other moves made around the league. The answer is just weeks away.
