Miguel Cabrera signed one of the biggest contracts in sports history recently at nearly $250 million in guaranteed salary from 2016 through 2025 with the Detroit Tigers. It has been revealed that Cabrera could make even more money in the contract if he wins more MVP awards or hits the Triple Crown again. Cabrera would make $2 million for winning the MVP and another $1 million for a Triple Crown.
The money going out in Major League Baseball is ridiculous but it is the name of the game and Cabrera is just cashing in on that success. He could even make $30 million a season in 2024 and 2025 if he finishes in the top ten in MVP voting the previous season. Who knows how the game will be ten years from now but $30 million a season could turn into a bargain.
There will be many people who are jealous of what Cabrera has the ability to make and rightfully so but he is just doing his job on a level not seen in the sport in quite a while. He probably deserves a large paycheck.
