In tonight’s friendly (11:15 PM EST | ESPN) against Mexico, the United States will debut their 2014 World Cup Away Jersey that’s been called all sorts of names so far. From what we’ve heard, the most fitting is probably a “Firecracker Popsicle.” The similarity is pretty on point (albeit the popsicle is upside down).
I’m going back and forth on my opinions of the uniform but truthfully the United States’ “kits” (as they’re called in the soccer world) have never been all that hot. Mashable reminded us today of the “denim” theme that USMNT ran with back in 1994.
But if the United States can pull together a solid string of games this June–a streak they’ll need since they’ve been put in this World Cup’s “Group of Death”–I think the public opinion will sway in favor of the bright uniforms.
