Welcome to the New Year! For many, their resolution is already down the toilet. Not mine, though. My New Year’s Resolution is exactly what you think it would be: try as many new beers as I can. My goal is 200! However, on tap this week is a brew from what I am predicting is a brewery that is about to explode in popularity and demand! This week Tired Hands Brewing Company’s HopHands is What’s on Tap!
Though only opened since 2012, Tired Hands is already making a name for themselves as they champion the “cross-over” beer. Located right outside of Philadelphia, on the Main Line in Ardmore, Tired Hands’s motto is “beautiful, forward-thinking, and strange beers.” Their beer HopsHands lives up to all of those characteristics.
The blend between citrus and hops is amazing as is the earthy flavors of the brew. Normally these are characteristics of a typical Pale Ale, but the Farmhouse qualities of this beer, subtle bitter-sweetness, a hazy color, and very light on the pallet, makes this cross between a Farmhouse / Saison and a Pale Ale as drinkable as it is tasty.
I first had HopHands at the brewer. I also took some home in a growler and I paired it with one of Tired Hands’s specialties, candied bacon. Yes, bacon that is not only smoked twice, but also candied and coated with maple black walnut butter! It might be the most fantastic small plate beer pairing ever! The sweetness of the beer combined with the candied bacon and smoky taste was awesome.
For those who have not made a New Year’s Resolution, here is one to consider, get your hands on some Tired Hands’s beer, you will not regret it!
