Kimberly Smith, an Alabama Spanish teacher, and her husband David are in hot water after authorities say the couple provided alcohol to underage students at a post-prom party they hosted at their home.
Kimberly, who teaches two different Spanish classes with the foreign languages department at Spanish Fort High School, and David, were arrested Wednesday, April 26, on charges of hosting an open house party after the school’s March 17 prom.
According to AL.com, Spanish Fort High students admitted to Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office investigators that Smith and her husband set up a bar in their home and served beer and liquor to the students. Furthermore, two of the students told police that Smith said “do not tell anyone” as she did not want to get in trouble or lose her job.
The Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office launched an investigation after being was first made aware of the party on Friday, April 21.

On Tuesday, investigators with the Sheriff’s Department and the Alabama Department of Human Resources spoke with six juveniles and their parents at Spanish Fort High School. Four of the students admitted to speaking with Smith’s daughter about the party at her home following prom.
According to a sheriff’s news release, the students that attended the party were provided food and alcohol by both David and Kimberly Smith. Most of the students admitted to partaking in drinking alcohol.
Students, according to authorities, said that Kimberly Smith instructed them to “give her their car keys and phones so they would not drink and drive or post images on social media of the party.”
Both Kimberly and David Smith turned themselves into authorities and were released on $500 bond.
Smith, who has been employed with the Baldwin County School System since 2005, was placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
