A sheriff’s dive team has recovered the body of 20-year-old Dawson Hartwig. Hartwig, who was reported missing after he failed to return to a cabin rental in Lake Arrowhead, was the son of the San Bernardino County Fire Chief. Hartwig’s body was found around 1:10 A.M. on Sunday in 30 feet of water near the Yacht Club in Lake Arrowhead, sheriff’s officials confirmed.
According to KTLA, Hartwig and friends rented a cabin on Burnt Mill Road. On Friday night, Hartwig told friends he was going for a walk and never returned. He was last seen Friday in the Lake Arrowhead Village area around 5:00 P.M.
Friends of Hartwig called the Twin Peaks Sheriff Station on Saturday morning after he did not return to the cabin, officials said. Police said that Hartwig left his phone and personal property behind.
According to the report, upwards of 70 San Bernardino Sheriff’s deputies, search and rescue volunteers, K9s and dive team members searched for Hartwig until his body was discovered early Sunday morning.
