WATCH: LIV Golf Star Sebastian Munoz Somehow Misses 1-Inch Putt After Complete Whiff

Anyone who’s picked up a golf club knows the game can be brutal. You’ll shoot lights out one day, then look like you’ve never touched a club the next.

But here’s the thing – even someone who’s never played before can usually figure out how to knock in a putt from one inch away.

LIV Golf’s Sebastian Munoz found out Thursday that sometimes even that’s not a given. During the opening round in Hong Kong, the 33-year-old Colombian ran into trouble on what should’ve been the easiest shot of his day.

Munoz posted a solid 5-under 65 in the first round, good for a tie for 10th place. Not bad at all. He would’ve been sitting at 6-under and tied for seventh – just four shots off leader Carlos Ortiz’s pace – if not for what happened on the par-4 16th hole.

The one-time LIV Tour winner left his birdie attempt short and faced what looked like a tap-in for par.

What Actually Happened

Technically, Munoz didn’t miss the putt. He never even made contact with the ball.

His putter bounced off the green, and he swung completely over the ball – which still counts as a stroke. That turned his gimme par into a bogey, and the whole thing got captured on camera for the world to see.

“That was an attempt to hit it, and he bounced over it,” David Feherty said on TNT Sports’ UK broadcast. “That’s something you don’t see every day.”

Broadcast partner Jerry Foltz broke down the ruling: “That is the forward push of the club with the attempt of advancing the ball, the definition of a stroke, and he has owned up to it already.”

At least Munoz isn’t alone in his misery.

Just last month, Bryson DeChambeau – one of the best players on the planet – completely topped a drive and looked just as confused as anyone would be. The difference? DeChambeau somehow managed to salvage a birdie from the mess.

Golf’s funny that way. Sometimes the game humbles you in the most unexpected moments, whether you’re trying to drive it 350 yards or just move the ball one inch.
