Ryan Gosling’s got three Oscar nominations, he’s been with Eva Mendes for 15 years, and he’s one of Canada’s biggest exports to Hollywood. The guy’s clearly talented.
But on Friday, the internet discovered something the 45-year-old actor absolutely can’t do — throw a football properly.
Gosling’s getting roasted across social media for his throwing form in a new Super Bowl commercial promoting his upcoming film, Project Hail Mary. The ad shows him attempting a “Hail Mary” pass through the massive donut at Randy’s Donuts in Los Angeles.

The Throw That Launched A Thousand Memes
Sure, the ball flies perfectly through the center of the donut — but that’s obviously some movie magic at work. What people can’t stop talking about is Gosling’s actual throwing motion.
“I can’t fathom this throwing motion from someone I thought was goated,” one fan wrote on X.
Another was even harsher: “Legitimately have a lot less respect for him as a human now that I know he throws like this.”
The irony wasn’t lost on fans either.
Gosling landed one of his first major roles in the 2000 classic Remember the Titans, playing Alan Bosley on the recently integrated T.C. Williams football team. Then again, his character played safety — so he probably didn’t have to throw much during filming.
Project Hail Mary hits theaters March 20. Based on Andy Weir’s novel, it follows Gosling as a teacher who’s sent 12 light-years from Earth on a mission to save humanity after the Sun starts dying.
At least he won’t need to throw any footballs to save the world.
