Joe Rogan has become the latest high-profile figure previously aligned with Donald Trump to publicly criticize the former president’s remarks about the murder of Rob Reiner.
Following actor James Woods, Republican Senator John Kennedy, and Fox News host Laura Ingraham, the popular podcaster is breaking rank with Trump over his comments about Reiner, who was killed alongside his wife Michele Singer by their son Nick.
Trump wasted no time politicizing the tragedy. Just one day after news of Reiner’s murder became public, he suggested the filmmaker was killed because of his political opinions.
“A very sad thing happened last night in Hollywood. Rob Reiner, a tortured and struggling, but once very talented movie director and comedy star, has passed away, together with his wife, Michele, reportedly due to the anger he caused others through his massive, unyielding, and incurable affliction with a mind crippling disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME, sometimes referred to as TDS,” Trump wrote on social media.
He didn’t stop there.
“He was known to have driven people CRAZY by his raging obsession of President Donald J. Trump, with his obvious paranoia reaching new heights as the Trump Administration surpassed all goals and expectations of greatness, and with the Golden Age of America upon us, perhaps like never before. May Rob and Michele rest in peace!”
Rogan: Trump’s Reiner Comments “Crazy” and “Not Funny”
During a recent podcast episode with comedian Shane Gillis, Rogan didn’t mince words about Trump’s reaction. “It’s so disappointing. It’s like why? If you say that privately that’s one thing, which is also crazy, but it’s so disappointing,” Rogan said.
The influential podcaster – who has hosted Trump on his show previously – expressed disbelief at the lack of empathy. “The Rob Reiner thing is not funny. When you see it with no empathy, that’s when it’s hard to like. Listen, there’s no justification for what he did that makes any sense in a compassionate society. It’s no different than people that were celebrating when Charlie Kirk got shot. It’s the same kind of thing,” he continued.
Rogan challenged his audience to consider how such comments would be received from other political figures. “Imagine if Obama tweeted something about someone after they died in this way. That this person was a deranged person that hated Obama. It just shows you how crazy it is, the way Trump thinks and talks. It’s just like, the guy got sliced up by his kid, you know? Anybody that doesn’t see that and go, ‘F—, man.’”
Reiner’s 32-year-old son Nick has been charged with two counts of first-degree homicide and is being held without bail as he awaits trial.
