Texas Man Robs Bank to Help Pay For His Wedding the Following Day

Heath Edward Bumpous, a 30-year-old man from Texas, robbed Citizens State Bank in Groveton, Texas on Friday, October 4. The reason Bumpous is believed to have robbed the bank was in order to pay for his wedding which was scheduled for the following day.

According to Fox News, Bumpous robbed the bank by stating he was armed with a gun in order to pay for the wedding ring and event venue.

Bumpous later turned himself in and was arrested for aggravated robbery.

“He basically stated that he was getting married tomorrow, so he didn’t have enough money for a wedding ring that he wanted to buy, and he needed to pay for the wedding venue,” Trinity County Sheriff Woody Wallace wrote on Facebook.

“So apparently that was what the money was for, for us to pay for him to get married tomorrow.”

Bumpous was identified as the thief by his fiancee who urged him to turn himself in.

“His fiancée, who he was supposed to marry tomorrow, was able to get in touch with him on the phone when she saw our post on Facebook. She knew it was him. She contacted him and asked him if he robbed a bank … she convinced him that she knew it was him,” Wallace added in a video posted on social media. “His picture was all on Facebook. He needed to turn himself in.

“He is now in custody. He has been charged with aggravated robbery. The district attorney has accepted the charges. It will go to a grand jury and he will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.”

Once Bumpous is released from jail and gets his legal issues in order, we will have to see whether his wedding is still on. At the very least, his fiancee can’t blame him for going above and beyond to make sure the wedding was paid for.
