13-Year-Old Keyla Salazar Identified as Gilroy Garlic Festival Shooting Victim

Keyla Salazar has been identified as one of the victims in the deadly shooting at the Gilroy Garlic Festival in Northern California on Sunday, July 28. Salazar, a 13-year-old girl from San Jose, was one of three who were killed during the attack carried out by Santino William Legan.

Other victims included 6-year-old Stephen Romero and Trevor Irby, who was in his 20s.

At the time of this writing, little information is known about Salazar.

Vice President Mike Pence has commented on the mass shooting with a statement which reads: “Today our hearts are with the families and loved ones of those involved in the CA shooting. Karen & I offer our prayers for the families & victims of this horrible act of violence. We condemn this attack in the strongest terms. We commend law enforcement for acting swiftly.”

The shooting occurred when Legan open-fired on the festival crowd with an “AK-47 style rifle” which injured 15 people and took the lives of the three victims. Authorities quickly responded and shot Legan dead approximately one minute after he began firing.

There are reports that a search continues for a potential accomplice, though it has not yet been confirmed that a second shooter was involved in the incident.

Our deepest condolences go out to all of the families and friends of the victims who were impacted by this incredibly heinous and tragic crime.
