Devon Erickson, 18, has been identified as one of the suspects who has been arrested in connection with the STEM School Highlands Ranch shooting that left at least 8 people injured. Additionally, one person — 18-year-old Kendrick Castillo — has died as a result of the shooting.
What Happened at STEM School Highlands Ranch?
Erickson and a second suspect began open firing at the STEM School complex in Colorado on Tuesday, May 7. Erickson reportedly took his gun out of a guitar case.
Following reports of the shooting, the school was placed on lockdown and police responded to the scene immediately. Additionally, authorities asked civilians to avoid the area while they responded to the scene. At least 8 people were taken to the hospital, four of which in serious condition.
Police said that the two shooters began opening fire in two different locations in the school complex.
“This is a terrible event,” Sheriff Spurlock said in a statement to reporters.
At this time, police are still investigating and working to determine a motive.
Colorado police officials have yet to provide any further details at this time.
