UPDATE: The lockdown at Kent State University has been lifted.
The Ashtabula Campus at Kent State University has been placed on lockdown this morning due to unspecified police activity in the area.
The university announced the lockdown on Twitter, asking for students and staff to “wait for further updates before traveling to campus.”
Speaking to WKYC, Kent State University spokesman said “police advised the lockdown as a safety precaution after a loud noise was heard a few blocks away from campus.”
It is currently unclear exactly what the noise was, how loud it was, or how it was caused.
At this time, there is no indication that any Kent State University students or staff members are in danger.
Police or KSU school officials have yet to provide any further information about the situation.
