LISTEN: Jay Z’s New Freestyle Honors Nipsey Hussle (AUDIO)

Jay Z was on hand to help re-open New York City’s Webster Hall for a special B-Sides show. During his set, Jay Z took some time out to honor late-rapper Nipsey Hussle, who was gunned down in broad daylight at the end of March in front of his clothing store in Los Angeles.

Hov honored Nipsey with a new freestyle discussing making a positive impact on your community.

“Gentrify your own hood before these people do it,” Jay Z rapped. “Claim eminent domain and have your people move in. That’s a small glimpse into what Nipsey was doing. For anybody still confused as to what he was doing.”

Of course, some social media savvy concertgoers shared video of Jay Z’s performance online shortly after his performance.

The show — which also included special appearances from Nas, Cam’ron, and Jim Jones — was a hot ticket on the secondary market with seats “going for upwards of $1,000 on the secondary market,” WABC reports.

Nipsey of Crenshaw was shot and killed on Sunday, March 31 outside of his clothing store in Los Angeles, California. The rapper was 33 years old. Hussle was recently nominated for Best Rap Album at the 61st Grammy Awards for his debut studio album “Victory Lap.” Initially, reports claimed that the murder in broad daylight was a result of gang violence, but an updated report showed it was the result of a personal disagreement between Nip and his shooter, Eric Holder, a member of the Rollin 60’s Neighborhood Crips.
