Former Student Who Had A Baby With His Teacher Now Suing The School District

A former Ohio student who had a sexual relationship and child with his teacher is now suing the school district for allowing the relationship to happen.
According to reports, the lawsuit — which was filed by the unnamed victim in the Summit County Court of Common Pleas — claims that the Akron Public School District and the Tallmadge City School district “failed to prevent adult Laura Lynn Cross from sexually abusing, assaulting, and raping the Plaintiff, a student and a minor.”
The lawsuit states that it was “well-known within these school systems” that Cross — who is now 38-years-old and pleaded guilty to three counts of sexual battery back in March 2018 – was “sexually abusing, assaulting, and raping” the victim.”
Additionally, the lawsuit alleges that the relationship between Cross and the victim began when he was just 12-years-old as Cross began “grooming” him.
Cross eventually gave birth to the pair’s child in December 2015 before the victim graduated from Tallmadge High School in Spring 2016.
Following her March 2018 guilty plea, Cross served time at the Ohio State Reformatory for Women in Marysville before eventually being released.
According to Cleveland.com, the lawsuit names “Cross, Akron Public Schools Superintendent David James, coach Ricky Powers, five unidentified school officials, Tallmadge City Schools Superintendent Jeff Ferguson, coach Joe Vassalotti and five unidentified school officials” as defendants.
Furthermore, the lawsuit is seeking damages in excess of $25,000 to repay the “severe and permanent physical, psychological and emotional damage” that the victim suffered “as a result of these failures.”
The crimes of Laura Lynn Cross is just one of many examples of education officials sexually assaulting their students in recent years.
As for why the number of these incidents has seemingly increased, studies suggest that smartphones are the primary reason for the spike in illicit relationships, as it allows teachers to communicate with the minors without supervision.
