Police in Grand Prairie, Texas, has confirmed that they’ve found the body of 26-year-old Weltzin Garcia.
According to reports, Garcia’s body was found in Dallas’ Mountain Creek Lake around 3 p.m. on Wednesday, April 3. Her body was reportedly discovered by a local kayaker.
Garcia had not been seen since she and her 28-year-old boyfriend Alfonso Roderick Hernandez went missing on Monday, February 5.
Alfonso Roderick Hernandez’s abandoned car was found near White Rock Lake on Monday, February 5 — just hours after the pair were reported missing — and his body was recovered from the same lake where Garcia was found on Friday, February 16.
Police had issued an arrest warrant for domestic violence for Hernandez shortly before he and Garcia went missing. Additionally, Garcia had obtained a protective order against Hernandez shortly before their disappearance.
At this time, Garcia’s official cause of death has not been announced.
Garcia and Hernandez leave behind two young children, a 3-year-old and 6-year-old.
In a statement, the Grand Prairie Police Department said that Dallas police will lead the investigation into Garcia’s death because her body was discovered inside of the Dallas city limits.
Grand Prairie police spokesman Mark Beseda told the Dallas Morning News that said the Grand Prairie police department plans to share any information to assist Dallas police in their investigation.
“Once they complete their investigation, we will close ours as well,” Beseda said in an emailed statement.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the friends, family, and loved ones of Weltzin Garcia during this extremely difficult time.
