‘American Idol’ Top 20 2019: Full List Of Contestants

American Idol announces its Top 20 contestants on Sunday, March 31 with a special three-hour episode. Entering the episode, the Top 40 contestants performed in front of the judges — Katy Perry, Luke Perry, and Lionel Richie — in Hawaii as they attempt to earn their spots on live television.

This season marks the second season that the long-running reality singing competition airs on ABC after being dropped by FOX and the 17th season overall.

Auditions began in Orlando, Florida and San Diego, California, and went on to span 20 cities while also accepting submissions from Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and Musical.ly.

Spoilers for the Top 20 were first reported by Gold Derby.

Among the Top 20 are familiar faces like former contestants Laine Hardy and Alyssa Raghunandan. Raghunandan made it to the Top 24 a year ago, while Laine initially did not audition for this season. However, he showed up to auditions to play guitar for a friend and the judges urged him to come back on the show.

Did your favorite contestant make the cut?

i made TOP 40 homies!! _ I wanted to take the next 3 days to post about the 3 rounds that made up the wild ass ride that was HOLLYWOOD WEEK. _ ROUND ONE: Lines Of 10 _ i sang “Use Me” – Bill Withers If you’ve stay up on my insta story you’ve probably seen that I’ve been practicing HELLA with my vocal coach @coach_roxy Working really hard to prove to you guys and myself that getting through my first audition wasn’t a fluke. i also had to show @lionelrichie that i knew who I was as an artist. i am a Funk artist. If i didn’t do that I knew I’d be going home, no more second chances. The BIG struggle was that ‘Lines of 10’ is acapella! If you know about funk music… bass guitar & drums are crucial 😬 i had to use my voice differently than i ever have to make them feel the funk. My coach said “they need to hear the rhythm with just your voice, if they’re not bobbing their heads you are not doing it right.” My legs were shaking the entire first day from the anxiety. i guess i must’ve done something right cause i got a stand ovation from everyone including Lionel 🙌 #GodIsReal _ Next: Group Rounds
