Guilherme Taucci Monteiro: Photos, Full Story & Must-See Details

Guilherme Taucci Monteiro has been identified as the 17-year-old man who shot and killed eight people in a school shooting in Sao Paolo, Brazil, on Wednesday, March 13.

The shooting — which was carried out by Monteiro, 17, and Luiz Henrique de Castro, 25 — resulted in five students and two employees at the Professor Raul Brasil school being killed. Police said that most of the deceased students were around 15-years-old.

In addition to the five students and two school employees, the gunman also killed the owner of a nearby car rental and injured at least 9 other students.

Monteiro and de Castro, who were reportedly wearing masks during the shooting, were armed with multiple weapons such as a crossbow, a hatchet, fake explosives, and an automatically reloading handgun.

The Professor Raul Brasil school is located in Suzano, which is a suburb city of São Paulo.

Following their killing spree, both Monteiro and de Castro took their own lives. At the time of this writing, police officials in São Paulo said they were still working to determine possible motives.

Speaking to reporters, São Paulo State governor João Doria said that “it’s the saddest scene I’ve witnessed in my whole life.”

Jair Bolsonaro, the President of Brazil, tweeted that the shooting carried out by Monteiro and de Castro was “cowardice without comparison.”

According to The New York Times, Doria declared three days of mourning following the tragic shooting.

The school shooting in Sao Paolo, Brazil, is similar to the mass shootings that have become so common in the United States. In 2018 alone, 113 people were killed or injured in school shootings in the United States, according to BBC.
