Floyd E. Brown, a 45-year-old man from Springfield, Illinois, has been identified as the suspect in the active shooting situation at the Extended Stay hotel in Rockford, Illinois that shot a US Marshal in the head before fleeing the scene.
Police say Brown remains at large and is to be considered armed and dangerous. Police have not clarified what Brown is armed with, although some reports indicate he is carrying some sort of rifle.
Additionally, authorities said that Brown is believed to be driving a light blue or silver Mercury Grand Marquis with a license plate that reads #BF13112 or a temporary plate that reads 4850256.
Police have urged that anyone who sees Brown or the vehicle not to approach and to call 911 immediately.
What Happened?
According to reports, Brown was staying at the Extended Stay America hotel near Bell School and East State intersection, just off I-90 and Route 20, when the US Marshals service came to serve a warrant for his arrest.
A police source told Rafer Weigel of Fox 32 that Brown then shot through the hotel door, striking a US Marshal in the head. He then jumped out of a 3-story window and fled the scene. The US Marshal who was shot is reportedly fighting for his life.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives also reportedly responded to the scene in addition to local police and the US Marshals.
