While the Momo Challenge is a generally unfunny phenomenon, because this is 2019 and the internet exists, it was only a matter of time before Momo got meme’d.
But first: what exactly is the Momo Challenge, why has it been in the news and where did it come from?
Well, the Momo Challenge first began to make the rounds on the internet back in Summer 2018 before resurfacing in February 2019 thanks to some social media attention from Kim Kardashian.
The Momo Challenge is a social media “challenge” that happens when young children are contacted through various social media channels such as YouTube by a creepy, eye-bulging woman named Momo, who then shares images and instructions on how to harm themselves and others.
In some case, the Momo encourages the children to commit suicide and will explain how to do so. Additionally, if the children disobey, the “Momo” threatens to put a curse on them.
As for the extremely creepy character that represents Momo, the mask is taken from Japanese doll artist Midori Hayashi, who claims to not have any connection to the menacing viral challenge.
And while the challenge is certainly no laughing matter, the internet always finds a way to make light of any situation, including Momo.

And while there are some worried parents out there who are legitimately concerned about the threat of the Momo challenge — as they should be, to be fair — the fact remains that little injuries or deaths have been caused as a direct result of “Momo” in the United States up until this point.
