German champions and Champions League semi-finalists Bayern Munich head to Anfield to take on Liverpool in the first leg of their Round of 16 matchup in the Champions League. Liverpool, who were finalists in last year’s competitions, are favorites over the reigning Bundesliga champions.
However, while Liverpool is favored in the game, they will be without central defender Virgil Van Dijk — arguably the team’s best and most important player — due to yellow card accumulation in the previous round, and fellow central defender Dejan Lovren, who is out with injury.
The Bavarian giants, who currently sit second in the Bundesliga table, head into today’s game quite short-handed as well, as they are without Thomas Muller, Arjen Robben, Corentin Tolisso, and Jerome Boateng.
