UPDATE (10/24/2018): Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov had their provisional suspensions extended by the Nevada State Athletic Commission on Wednesday, October 24. A resolution on any punishment for Nurmagomedov and McGregor will come on Monday, December 10 when the commission will meet again. Both fighters are expected to attend the scheduled commission meeting.
“Circle Monday, Dec. 10, on your calendar. That is the day currently scheduled to host the December commission meeting, save any changes. Khabib and Conor to attend. See you all then at 9 a.m. PT,” MMAjunkie’s John Morgan added.
In the meantime, both fighters have had their suspensions extended “through the resolution of the formal disciplinary actions.”
UFC lightweights Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov have been suspended for their roles in the brawl that took place following their UFC 229 main event at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Saturday, Oct. 6. Nurmagomedov jumped out of the cage and engaged with McGregor teammate Dillon Danis in the crowd, while McGregor threw hands with two Khabib teammates inside of the cage.
Now, while the two fighters wait to learn the full extent of their punishment for the melee, Nevada State Athletic Commission executive Bob Bennett confirmed that both fighters received a letter announcing their suspensions.
According to FOX 5 KVVU-TV in Las Vegas, the two fighters are suspended for at least 10 days.
The suspensions go into effect on Friday, Oct. 15. The Nevada State Athletic Commission meets on one day before those suspensions end on Wednesday, Oct. 24. During that meeting, the NSAC can determine whether to extend the suspensions.
With his win, Khabib advanced to 27-0 in his professional career. His 27 consecutive wins gives him the longest winning streak in all of mixed martial arts. Khabib first won the vacant lightweight championship on April 7, 2018 at UFC 223 when he scored a dominant decision win over Al Iaquinta in Brooklyn, New York. He became the first Russian to win a UFC title. The submission victory over McGregor was his first title defense.
McGregor, meanwhile, falls to 21-4 in his professional career and has suffered his second submission loss in four outings. All four of McGregor’s losses have come by way of submission, with three of the four via rear-naked choke. In his two most recent wins, McGregor earned a majority decision win over Nate Diaz and a TKO victory over Eddie Alvarez to claim the UFC lightweight championship which he was ultimately stripped of when he took a hiatus from MMA to enter the boxing ring against Floyd Mayweather.
