American Airlines has had its fair share of negative publicity over the course of the past year, but nothing could have prepared anyone for what was discovered on Monday, Aug. 7. Monday morning, a cleaning crew was tidying up an American Airlines plane that was in a hangar at LaGuardia Airport in New York City when they made a grisly discovery: a dead fetus was in the bathroom, according to a report from WNBC.

The plane had landed at Terminal B in Queens from Charlotte about an hour before midnight on Monday night.

Immediately after the discovery, the plane was removed from the tarmac for investigation. The fetus, meanwhile, was taken to the medical examiner’s office for an autopsy to determine how it died.

“We have no major impact to our operation this morning while we are working with law enforcement on an investigation,” American Airlines said in a brief statement.

“As we continue to learn more about this tragic and sensitive situation, we are actively cooperating with law enforcement in its investigation. Please contact law enforcement or the medical examiner’s office for additional information.”

More information will be provided as it becomes available.
