Wright Patterson Active Shooter: Full Story & Must-See Details

There are unconfirmed reports of an active shooter situation at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base hospital. The base is near Dayton, Ohio. A heavy police presence can be seen with multiple news outlets providing live coverage of the situation.

“At approximately 12:40 p.m. today, base emergency responders, including security forces and fire department, responded to a reported incident in building 830, the Wright-Patt Hospital. There are no additional details at this time. Information will be released as it is available,” the Air Force Base wrote in a tweet.

“Our first priority in any emergency incident is to protect the men and women at Wright-Patt. Our base security forces defenders and fire department personnel are trained to quickly assess situations and take necessary action. An investigation is under way.”

The Ohio State Highway Patrol and local police are among those on the scene, according to the Associated Press.

Karin Johnson of WLWT said that “Lockdown, lockdown, lockdown” was repeated twice over a loudspeaker before the law enforcement response came.

According to a report from WPAFB, employees have been told to shelter in place and a man has barricaded himself on the fourth floor of the building. The report reads:

Base officials tell 2 NEWS the base is on lockdown and employees have been told to shelter in place.

2 NEWS has confirmed from a law enforcement source that a man has barricaded himself on the fourth floor of the base hospital.

No additional information is available at this time.

UPDATE 3:21 PM: An official “all-clear” has been given for the base. An official statement on the situation is still pending and no possible suspect information has been released.

UPDATE 3:57 PM: A statement from Wright Air Force Base was issued as follows”

“Upon investigation, it was determined that the incident at the MTF was not an actual Active Shooter incident…An unknown individual called 911 believing that there was a real-world incident occurring within the base hospital. As a result, security forces responded to the scene and began a systematic sweep and clearing of the entire hospital. In an attempt to breech a door that was locked, a security forces member discharged his firearm to open the door and continue the sweep of the facility. The scene has been declared safe and all personnel have been advised to avoid the base hospital area for the time being.”
