The two best-golfing legends of our generation could hit the course to play a mano a mano winner-take-all match. Tiger Woods vs. Phil Mickelson is reportedly in the works and has the golfing world buzzing. The two would play a one-on-one, 18-hole match that nets the winner $10 million. Talk about a dream come true for many golfing fans who have watched this rivalry for two decades.
Lefty and Tiger have been each other’s chief rival during their respective careers. It’s no secret Woods has gotten the best of Mickelson over the years, but Lefty is not too far behind. Overall the two combine for 19 Major victories, 14 of those by Woods and five coming from Mickelson. For their careers, Woods has a record 79 PGA Tour titles, and Mickelson has a not too shabby 43 PGA Tour wins. Tiger even took a little shot at those figures when discussing the matchup.

Back at the Players, after he proposed the match, Mickelson wondered whether Woods “wants a piece of me.” To that, Tiger repsonded, “First of all…big picture. How many times have we both won on Tour?”
The rivalry between the two has softened as they enter the twilight of their respective careers. But, as you can see, there are still some competitive juices running through them. Woods also apparently threw a jab Mickelson’s way regarding their bank accounts.

“We’ll play for whatever makes him comfortable,” Woods, whose net worth is estimated to be in excess $740 million, also said.
This all started back at the Players Championship when Mickelson proposed the “high-stakes, winner-take-all” match up and it has since turned from a joke to very much becoming a reality. In fact, it almost happened this week as the two were set to take the course on July 3rd, per Golf.com’s Alan Shipnuck, but those plans fell through.
It seems as though, the two camps are still finetuning the TV and sponsorship deals before receiving the go-ahead for the matchup. One thing is for sure though, once this marquee match between two long-time heated rivals is set, it will be must-watch entertainment.
