Jimmy Fallon gets a lot of heat on Twitter for his, at times, over-enthusiasm. Anyone who’s ever seen The Tonight Show knows that Fallon can kinda sorta oversell his laughter whenever his guest says anything, really. In fact, there are an entire species of memes about Jimmy Fallon’s laughter:
However, perceived fake laughter or not, no one has ever questioned whether or not Jimmy Fallon is a genuinely good dude. Whether it be stories of him at a random bar with regular folk or pulling off charity work, while people may question the genuineness of his on-screen laughter, no one has ever doubted his off-screen character. Just look at his reaction when he reunites one of his employees with her Air Force husband:
The latest example of Jimmy Fallon’s stand-up character came this weekend when he made a surprise appearance at the Marjory Stoneman Douglas graduation ceremony. 17 people were killed in a shooting at the Parkland, Florida, high school earlier this year.
Jimmy Fallon made a surprise visit at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School’s graduation ceremony on Sunday, nearly four months after the students survived a shooting that killed 17 of their classmates and teachers. In his commencement speech, Fallon offered comic relief and thanked the student activists who have been spearheading gun control reform.
“Today you’re graduating from high school,” Fallon, host of The Tonight Show, said. “You should feel incredibly proud of yourselves. That doesn’t mean you should rest on your laurels — or your yannys.”
Yannys and Laurels aside, he continued, “Here’s what will matter: You, the class of 2018, will have graduated. And you won’t be classmates anymore. You’ll be adults who Facebook search each other at two in the morning for the next 10 years.”
And it’s not like Fallon did this for media attention, as reporters and cameras were barred from the ceremony. However, as is the case with most things, word leaked out on social media quite quickly.
Jimmy Fallon: slight over-actor, but forever an awesome guy. You can watch his full speech below:
