Reports have come out that police are responding to an active shooting situation in the West Jordan area of Utah. Officials later confirmed the shooting reports on social media.
On their official Twitter account, the West Jordan Police Department issued the following statement:
“WJPD on scene of shooting. PIO enroute and can provide details. Meet at 7000 s 4800 west. I’m 20 mins out -Sgt Holt”
According to Fox 13, which is based in Salt Lake City, officials first released the story around 6:53 P.M. local time. According to the publication, no other details were immediately available concerning the story.
There was a dispute between two groups
According to Fox 13, police at the scene confirmed that the incident began with a dispute between two groups of people, one of whom was in a car and the other had been on the street. One person with the group on the street threw a rock at the car, breaking a window. This incident spurred someone inside the car to fire a weapon.
One person was wounded in the shooting and drove himself to a hospital, but further details concerning his condition were not immediately available.
At this time, police believe that they found the vehicle involved and detained several people. That said, there have been no arrests made concerning this story as of yet.
Police also believe that the incident may have been related to gang activity.
