Three people in north Charlotte in North Carolina this Sunday afternoon, as confirmed by local medical professionals. One person endured serious injuries and the two other only suffered minor injuries, as confirmed by the local medics. All three people were being treated at the local Carolinas Medical Center. Officials did not say if a suspect was identified in the incident.
What happened?
According to WCNC, an NBC affiliate, medics reportedly found the three victims at the scene:
“Medic responded to a call in the 1900 block of Irma Street. “
Medic, Charlotte Fire Department and Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department were said to be at the scene.
According to The Charlotte Observer, there have been other shootings in the area over the Mother’s Day weekend; two people have already died in local shootings and five other people were injured. This recent story brings the number of people who were injured in gun-related injured to eight for the total weekend.
UPDATE: According to The Charlotte Observer, it is believed that the two victims who endured minor injuries from the shooting were most likely merely “grazed” by the bullet, but this remains unconfirmed at this time.
According to ABC 13 WLOS, neighbors claimed that the shooting occurred in the mid-afternoon, specifying that it was a time when children were usually playing outside, but did not confirm if children were outside during the shooting. One neighbor, who was not identified, issued the following statement:
“I ducked. I couldn’t even look, I was so scared. I didn’t know what was going on.”
Police are asking the public for information about the shooting
According to WBTV, an investigation is ongoing concerning a possible gunman; officials are also asking people who have information about the case to contact them:
“Officials do not have a person in custody and this is an ongoing investigation.”
“Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.”
