The Met Gala is tonight, which means all of the most beautiful people in the world are congregating in New York City to drink fancy alcohol and flex on Instagram. And if that didn’t make the event sound like the boujeeiest, snobbiest bullshit you’ve ever heard of, then get a load of the theme for the 2018 Met Gala: “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination.”
The Met Gala, formally called the “Costume Institute Gala”, is an annual fundraising gala for the benefit of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute in New York City, marking the grand opening of the Costume Institute’s annual fashion exhibit.
Each year’s event celebrates the theme of that year’s Costume Institute exhibition and the exhibition sets the tone for the formal dress of the night. Guests attending the event are expected to choose their fashion to match the theme of the exhibit. Each year, celebrities are chosen to serve as the event’s honorary chairs.
Individual tickets to the Met Gala, which annual guest list includes only 650–700 people, cost approximately $30,000. Imagine being so rich that you pay 30 G’s to voluntarily go to prom? What a life.
