Officials say there has been a school shooting at Great Mills High School in southern Maryland. The campus is on lockdown and the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office is on the scene and investigating the incident. Special agents from the ATF’s Baltimore office are en route.
Early reports indicate that three people have been injured. Sources tell ABC that the Great Mills shooter was a student and is one of the three injured. Furthermore, two others injured were also students. Reports indicate that a school resource officer took action to end threat.

St. Mary’s County Public Schools wrote on its website: “There has been a Shooting at Great Mills High School. The school is on lock down the event is contained, the Sheriff’s office is on the scene additional information to follow.” Parents and guardians are being asked to go to the Leonardtown High School to be reunited with their students.
No other information has been made available at this time.
Great Mills High School is a comprehensive public high school of 1600+ students in grades 9-12. It serves students at the confluence of the Potomac River, Patuxent River, and Chesapeake Bay. The area is a mixture of rural and suburban communities.
The shooting comes more than a month after the school shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, that left 17 people dead.
