Police at California State University, Monterey Bay are investigating a suspicious person with a possible weapon on campus. Early morning Tuesday, around 10:30 A.M., an alert was sent out to students, with police detailing the suspicious person as a white man, 5 foot 4 inches tall with straight hair, a thin build, dark-colored clothing, a backpack and possibly a weapon at their side.

What happened?

The school’s official Twitter account has released the following updates:

“The @CSUMB_PD is currently responding to a report of a suspicious person on campus with a possible weapon at his side. This person has not yet been located. UPD is actively searching for the subject.”

“The subject is described as a white male, 5 ft 4 inches with straight hair and a slim build. Subject is wearing dark clothing, wearing a backpack and may have a weapon at his side. All suspicious activity should be reported to 911.”

“Follow @CSUMB twitter or http://csumb.edu homepage for updates as they become available.”

“UPD has made contact with the subject and confirmed NO threat to campus. Subject was carrying an umbrella. Thank you @CSUMB_UPD for your diligent response to this incident.”

UPDATE: It was later confirmed by the school that authorities made contact with the suspicious person and there had been no threat to the campus, with the suspicious item originally believed to be a weapon now believed to be an umbrella.
