The odds of picking a perfect NCAA Tournament bracket are not high. It’s a contested topic but people think it’s somewhere between 1 in 128 billion and 1 in 9.2 quintillion. Regardless, it’s an impossibly small fraction and to date, no one has ever been the anomaly.
A safer bet is to pick one of the 68 teams to win it all. March Madness is so close we can taste it, and come Selection Sunday, we’ll find out who’s all in the running. There’s already been plenty of conference tournament upsets and underdog runs that are sure to continue into the big tourney. There is no truly elite team in college basketball this year.
For the second time in three seasons, the Villanova Wildcats are favorites to win the national championship. Last season’s champs, the UNC Tar Heels, are listed as a 12/1 repeat, while their bitter rivals, Duke, are right behind the Wildcats at 5/1 odds.
If the odds of picking a perfect bracket don’t do it for you, then here are some odds that are much more likely to happen.
Odds Of Making A Half-Court Shot In A Halftime Competition: 1 in 50
Odds Of Finding A Four-Leaf Clover: 1 / 10,000
Odds Of Bowling A Perfect Game: 1 / 11,500
Odds Of Winning An Academy Award: 1 / 11,500
Odds Of Making An Albatross: 1 / 1,000,000
