A 16-year-old boy, later identified as Anthony Weber, was shot to death in one of two deputy-involved shootings in less than four hours for the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department.
As confirmed by the coroner’s office, Weber died at the scene of the first shooting, which occurred at 8:20 PM Sunday in the 1200 block of West 107th Street in unincorporated Westmont abutting South Los Angeles.
According to the Pasadena Star-News, the sheriff’s department released the following statement:

“The subject was struck several times in the upper body by gunfire and collapsed at the location.”

What happened?

According to Deputy Wally Bracks, deputies were called into the area after a young man was reported to be pointing a handgun at a motorist, deputies later claimed that a handgun was seen tucked into the man’s waistband. Despite this, as of Monday, the weapon was not yet been found. The teen allegedly fled, spurring a pursuit on foot.
According to ABC 7, a neighbor identified only as “Des” gave the following eye-witness account:

“We thought there was an active shooter because the gunshots were so loud…We didn’t hear anything leading up, just the shots.”

According to a statement from the department, Weber was then shot “several times” in the upper body.
Another deputy-involved shooting was reported in Artesia, which occurred at Horst Avenue and Artesia Boulevard at 12:08 AM today.
It is believed that no deputies were injured in the two incidents. Both shootings are currently under investigation.
Luxora Leader also reported a similar account the night before, although the victim was not identified:

“Investigators said the man attacked two deputies – tackling them both to the ground as they tried to arrest him. A neighbor had to help the deputies so they could place handcuffs on him, they added.”

“When Lancaster sheriff‘s deputies arrived, the man initially complied with their commands. But as they went to handcuff him, they say he turned and attacked a deputy — knocking him to the ground — and then straddling him.”

What happens now?

The investigation concerning Weber’s death is still ongoing.
Anyone who has information about either of the incidents is encouraged to contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500.
