Win or lose this Sunday, the Philly faithful will always have the Birds cheer squad to enliven their spirits. Hopefully that’ll help deter any potential riots, burning couches, etc. It’s unlikely, sure, but probably more effective than greasing poles, which seems to attract more fanatic acrobats if anything.
The Eagles cheerleaders, who debuted as the Eaglettes in 1948, have 38 members who cheer on their Birds every Sunday. Fortunately for us, they’re one of the few NFL squads that release an annual swimsuit calendar. Unfortunately for me, I don’t have $20 to spend on a calendar, and even if I did, it looks like the 2018 calendar is already sold out.  Must be a nice read. This stunning squad could sell sand in the Sahara, and also apparently knows what it takes to be on a winning team.
This Sunday at 6:30 PM ET, the Birds squad will join the #underdog Eagles as they take on the favorited Patriots in Super Bowl LII. The NFL’s grand finale will feature a Tom Brady and Nick Foles matchup. Who woulda thunk it? I’ll tell ya who. The ladies in midnight green. They didn’t doubt Nicky Six and the team for a minute. They cheered, stunted, and danced their way through the divisional and conference rounds, and now onto the Super Bowl.
Now I have two requests for this year’s Super Bowl. First, there should be no middle ground with the commercials. I want to either be welling up over a heartwarming ad or chuckling like a schoolkid who just heard some in-class flatulence. No in-between. Car commercials, please don’t ruin my Sunday. Second, let’s give the cheerleaders a little more facetime. It’s the right thing to do. They’re more photogenic and have stood beside their teams cheering them to victory all season. I’ll be damned if they don’t get their fair share of the spotlight on sport’s biggest stage. But just in case they don’t… check out the gallery above to make up for it.
