A Texas State University newspaper is under fire after they printed an opinion article, titled “Your DNA Is An Abomination,” directed towards white people. The article states that “white death will mean liberation for all” and that whiteness is “a construct used to perpetuate a system of racist power.” Therefore, to the author, if you’re white your identity is inherently linked to oppression and you hold privilege over all non-whites despite your/their socioeconomic status. And of course, this article stirred up some serious controversy…
The student-run newspaper, Texas State’s University Star, has already issued an apology following severe backlash from readers online. “After reading this I’m embarrassed for my University! I would not be okay if this was written in any other context, I made many friends from different cultures,” said one embarrassed student on Twitter.
“Whiteness will be over because we want it to be,” wrote the author of the article, Texas State University senior Rudy Martinez. “And when it dies, there will be millions of cultural zombies aimlessly wandering across a vastly changed landscape.”
Martinez calls every white American “an aberration…who is a descendant of those Europeans who chose to abandon their identity in search of something ‘new’ stolen land.”

“Until then, remember this: I hate you because you shouldn’t exist,” wrote Martinez. “You are both the dominant apparatus on the planet and the void in which all other cultures, upon meeting you, die.”
In the article, Martinez writes that out of all the white people he has met in his life, he has come across “perhaps only a dozen” who he would consider “descent.”
Late Tuesday, the University Star’s Editor-in-Chief, Denise Cervantes issued a statement reflecting on “widespread criticism from readers.”
“The University Star’s opinion pages are a forum for students to express and debate ideas,” she said. “While our publication does not endorse every opinion put forth by student columnists or guest contributors, as the editor I take responsibility for what is printed on our pages.”
Cervantes suggested that the original intent of the article was to provide commentary on issues relating to race and racial identities.
“We acknowledge that the column could have been clearer in its message and that it has caused hurt within our campus community,” she said. “We apologize and hope that we can move forward to a place of productive dialogue on ways to bring our community together.” – I wonder if that also includes race-baiting and dehumanizing language, considering what was already accepted as being fit for print.
Andrew Homann, Former Texas State student body president and chief of staff at the Texas Federation of College Republicans, was one of the voices who spoke out against this column.
“Just when you think the opinion’s columns in the University Star couldn’t get any worse, they publish this masterpiece and exceed my expectations,” he wrote on a Facebook post on Tuesday. “No one is going to take this paper seriously if the editorial board continues to allow baseless garbage to be published week in and week out.”
“I expect a better response and repercussions,” said one Twitter user, in a message directed to the president of Texas State University.
“Was the piece racist? Nope; racist attitudes come from a position of power,” Martinez said in an interview with The College Fix. “The only group who have ever held true power in this nation are those who call themselves ‘white.'”
Martinez claims that his article opened up dialogue relating to race and outed the real racists.
The President of Texas State, Denise M. Trauth, said, “The column’s central theme was abhorrent and is contrary to the core values of the inclusion and unity that out Bobcat students, faculty, and staff hold dear.”
Who is Rudy Martinez?
He’s a senior-level student at Texas State University who has stirred up some serious controversy with his op-ed article, “Your DNA Is An Abomination”.
Martinez is a philosophy major who thinks “white people” are an “aberration,” which means “a departure from what is normal, usual, or expected, typically one that is unwelcome,” according to Google’s dictionary.
In a past article, titled “Dane Powell is a hero,” Martinez writes that he was one of 200 people arrested on January 20, 2017, for protesting “the inauguration of proto-fascist Donald Trump.”
The Texas State University student writes that he hates white people because they “shouldn’t exist.”
“Until then, remember this: I hate you because you shouldn’t exist,” wrote Martinez. “You are both the dominant apparatus on the planet and the void in which all other cultures, upon meeting you, die.”
Martinez took to Facebook on Wednesday to write, “This just in! Texas State President Denise Trauth, best known for falling asleep during a talk given by Angela Davis, has called me a racist. Therefore, she is no longer a member of my “decent dozen”.
He wrote in a now-controversial op-ed article that, “When I think of all the white people I have ever encountered – whether they’ve been professors, peers, lovers, friends, police officers, et cetera – there is perhaps only a dozen I would consider ‘descent.'”
The student lives in San Marcos, Texas, but was originally from Hialeah, Florida. He had formerly attended Miami Dade College (from 2010 to 2013) and Marter Academy Charter High, according to his FB page.
Martinez has been fired from his job as a writer for the Texas State University’s student newspaper. His now imfamous op-ed article has been taken down from the paper’s website. He contends that he isn’t racist because he isn’t white.
