Orange County deputies are responding to Windermere High School for possible threats. The school was placed on “code red” lockdown.
According to Windermere High School’s official Facebook page, the building is in a ‘code red’ lockdown after some students received threatening texts. Police are on the scene and the situation is under control. Orange County Sherrif’s are also investigating.
There are no injuries and the school is indicating that everyone is safe.
Facebook user Monica Clark says that she spoke to police as well as her daughter, who is a student at Windermere. Clark says her daughter claims someone “has a taser gun and was being immature by saying he was going to use him”, but that police have “got him” and that the kids are safe.

Alyssa Kenney, a teacher at Windermere High School, posted a status update at 12:50 PM EST saying that her and her students were locked in the classroom, away from the door, with the lights turned off, and that everyone was safe.

At 1:10 PM, the Windermere High School Facebook updated their status to further explain the situation:
We are currently on a code red lock down as a result of some text messages that students received. At this time everything is fine and students and staff are safe. We have police on campus conducting an investigation. Please be advised that under a code red lockdown, students may not be released. We will follow with updates as we know them.
Again, everyone is fine and police are leading the investigation.
About Windermere High School
Windermere High School is a high school in Lake Butler, an unincorporated area located in the southwest portion of Orange County, Florida. The school is a relief school for nearby West Orange High School that was opened for the 2017-2018 school year and beyond.
The district established a vote for naming the school, and 39% of the area families, the largest group, voted for the name “Windermere High School.” 22% each voted for Horizon High School and Lake Butler High School. The Windermere, Florida town council opposed the naming on the grounds that area residents may mistakenly confuse the school with Windermere Preparatory School.
Some OCPS board members also argued the school should not be named for a community it will not be located in; they stated that not very many students from the town of Windermere will go to Windermere High.
Windermere High School has approximately 2,776 students in attendance. The school was opened on August 14, 2017, and reportedly cost $93.5 million dollars.
